LASIK FAQs

At Eye 1st Vision Center, our Sandy Springs eye doctor and optometry team is committed to serving patients in the surrounding communities. One of the many eye care services we're able to offer is that of LASIK evaluations, referrals, and post-surgical care to optimize your results. If you've been thinking about having this procedure done to correct your vision, we're here to help you get the ball rolling.

Lasik Surgery in Sandy Springs

LASIK is a relatively involved procedure and one that involves surgical incisions to be made on the affected eye(s); for this reason, you should be as informed as possible before you decide to have this procedure done. To help, we've put together a list of some of the most frequently asked questions we receive about LASIK in our office.

How does LASIK work to correct vision?

Using high-powered and precise lasers, LASIK surgery works by reshaping the corneas of the affected eyes. This improves the angle at which light enters the eyes and hits the retina, which can improve vision problems related to presbyopia, astigmatism, and other common vision conditions.

Who is a viable candidate for LASIK?

Our Sandy Springs eye doctor offers LASIK evaluations, which are designed to determine whether or not you're a good candidate for LASIK surgery. In most cases, the best candidates for the procedure are adults over the age of 18 who have had a stable vision prescription for at least the past 12 months. This procedure is not recommended for women who are pregnant or nursing. If your exam determines that you're a good candidate, we can refer you to a reputable surgeon that we work with regularly.

Will the procedure be painful?

Before the procedure, numbing drops will be placed on your eyes, so you won't feel any pain during the surgery itself. However, some patients have noted that they feel a little bit of pressure as the eyes are being worked on, and this is not uncommon or dangerous.

What can I expect after LASIK?

While not all patients will end up with flawless, 20/20 vision after the procedure, most will enjoy significantly improved vision to the point that they no longer have to wear glasses or contacts while performing most everyday tasks. This includes everything from driving and watching TV to playing sports and even reading.

How long does recovery take?

You should be able to return to most activities within 24 hours of your procedure, with the exception of swimming and contact sports. In the first 24 hours, your vision will likely be very blurry as your eyes heal. Most patients have complete vision clarity within 48 hours after the procedure. Follow-up appointments with our optometry team will also be recommended to make sure everything is healing properly and that you're getting the most out of your LASIK procedure.
