It is essential to the health of your eyes and your vision that you schedule annual eye care exams with Eye 1st Vision Center. Some people see their eye doctor only when they are having an issue. This is a mistake. There are several reasons why annual eye exams are so important.
Vision Changes Occur Gradually
In many cases, vision changes occur so gradually that you may not even realize that your vision has worsened. During your annual eye exam, our optometrist will perform a visual acuity test to check your vision. If your vision has changed, we can prescribe a new pair of glasses or contacts.
New Glasses and Contacts
If you lose or break your glasses and need a new pair, you will need a current prescription. Because an eyeglass prescription is valid for only one year, you are going to need an annual eye exam to get a new pair. If you wear contacts and your supply has run out, you will need an eye exam. Like eyeglasses, your contact lens prescription is valid for only one year.
Diseases Of the Eye Show No Early Symptoms
Many diseases of the eye show no symptoms in the early stages. It isn't until permanent vision loss has occurred that you will realize that there is something wrong. A few examples of these diseases include glaucoma, macular degeneration, and diabetic retinopathy. During your annual eye exam, our optometrist would perform a dilated exam to check for abnormalities caused by these conditions. If caught early, there are treatment options available to slow the progression of the disease, which will preserve your vision longer.
Detect Medical Conditions
Certain medical conditions can be detected during an eye exam. In some cases, our optometrist will catch the disease before your primary care physician does. A few of these conditions include diabetes, high blood pressure, multiple sclerosis, and brain tumors. The sooner these conditions are detected, the sooner you can begin treatment.
Annual eye exams are essential for the health of your eyes as well as your overall health. Our optometrist at Eye 1st Vision Care can treat your whole family, as we specialize in pediatrics. To schedule an eye exam, give us a call today.
